Everyone who calls

These days I am swimming in Paul's remarkable letter to the mainly Gentile church in Rome. This letter is a tribute to grace.

10:13 Therefore "Everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved." The emphasis, of course, is on the word "Everyone." That is Paul's whole argument. The Cross scrapes off all privilege. It gives everyone a new privilege - fellowship with God himself, through Jesus, made real by the Holy Spirit.

To love again

Another of Wesley's hymns that causes one to pause, absorb and praise.

To thee I lift my mournful eye;
Why am I thus? – O, tell me why
I cannot love my God?
The hindrance must be all in me;
It cannot in my Savior be;
Witness that streaming blood.

It cost thy blood my heart to win,
To buy me from the power of sin,
And make me love again;
Come, then, my Lord, thy right assert,
Take to thyself my ransomed heart;
Nor bleed, nor die in vain.
